Gerhard Schliepstein’s figurine follows in the traditional porcelain series of the four seasons, created in as early as the 18th century. Unlike older designs, its form is highly simplified and minimal, elevating the elegant lines. The pure white glazed figure of a young woman kneeling on a simple base and holding a basket of grapes represents Autumn. This is part of a group of the four seasons, which the artist designed for

the art studio in Selb in 1928 under serial numbers 981–984. (lmp)
